Everett Announces $10,000 Awarded to Montoursville and Picture Rocks
10/10/2018
LYCOMING — In conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, Rep. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming) announced today that two rural fire departments in the 84th Legislative District have been awarded approximately $10,000 in grant funding. The funds are to be used for training and equipment purchases directly related to fighting brush and forest fires.

“Lycoming County is the largest in the Commonwealth and one of the most rural, so it is essential that our rural firefighters are properly trained and equipped to protect our beautiful state parks and forests,” said Everett. “This targeted grant program is also essential to keeping our volunteers safe and well-prepared.”

Volunteer fire organizations in the 84th Legislative District to receive grants are as follows:

Lycoming County
• Eldred Township Volunteer Fire Co., Montoursville, $6,500
• Picture Rocks Volunteer Fire Co., Picture Rocks, $3,565

Everett confirmed the funding can be used for purchasing wildfire-suppression equipment, protective clothing, mobile or portable radios, water supply installations, wildfire prevention and mitigation, wildfire training; and to convert and maintain federal excess vehicles for fire suppression.

The grant program, appropriated through DCNR and paid through federal grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, has awarded more than $12.5 million since it began in 1982.
