Everett Says Budget Bills Sent to Governor This Week
HARRISBURG – Rep. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming/Union), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, said today the bills to fund the 2017-18 state budget have been passed and sent to Gov. Tom Wolf.

“I am pleased that we were able to fend off proposed broad-based tax increases and still fund basic state government services for our residents,” said Everett. “It was certainly a struggle at times as various groups kept calling for a variety of tax hikes, but we managed to find funding through surplus accounts that accounted for $300 million.”

Everett said the budget spending was less than what Wolf had proposed but still managed to increase funding for Basic Education and the State System of Higher Education as well as maintaining funding for the state-related higher education schools that include Penn State, Pitt, Lincoln, Temple and the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School.

The bills succeed in closing out the remaining financial needs from the 2016-17 budget and fully fund the 2017-18 spending and revenue requirements. Everett is hopeful the governor will soon sign the bills into law.
