Wheeland, Everett Take the Oath of Office to Begin 2015-16 House Session
Rep. Jeff C. Wheeland and Rep. Garth Everett are shown here on the House floor during the swearing-in day celebration at the state Capitol.
– Rep. Jeff C. Wheeland (R-Lycoming), newly elected to the 83rd Legislative District, and Rep. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming/Union) returning for a fifth term representing the 84th Legislative District, were sworn in to office today in the House chamber in Harrisburg.

“I am honored to be chosen by the residents of the 83rd Legislative District to be their voice in Harrisburg and with this oath of office today, a new session begins that brings with it an opportunity to enact fiscally responsible legislation and make Pennsylvania a better place to live,” said Wheeland. “There are challenges to be faced, but I will work with my colleagues to take a commonsense approach to public policy.”

Everett said there are many new faces in Harrisburg, including a new governor, and that there are issues that have to be tackled.

“There is an expanded majority in the House and Senate and a new Democratic governor, so it will be inherent that we do our best to work together to address the fiscal and other issues that face us as a Commonwealth,” said Everett. “We will be working to enact a new budget and deal with other issues, and I look forward to again facing the challenges.”

The day’s activities marked the opening of the 2015-16 session of the Pennsylvania General Assembly and featured a joint session with the Senate.

In addition to the adoption of House operating rules, the session also featured the election of a new speaker, Rep. Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny).
