CFA Awards Funding for Williamsport Regional Airport Authority
HARRISBURG – Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and Rep. Garth Everett (R-84) joined with the Lycoming County Commissioners to announce that the Williamsport Regional Airport Authority will be receiving a $1.5 million grant through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) under the state’s newly created Multimodal Transportation Fund.

The airport authority will utilize the state funding to construct and replace an existing terminal building, adding 8,000 square feet to the airport. The increase in size will expand services and contribute to the comfort and safety of the traveling public.

“I am glad to support such a regional project,” Yaw said. “An updated airport facility has been needed in this area for some time and this funding is a step in the right direction.”

“If we ever hope to get more flights and airlines into our airport, we definitely need to modernize the terminal and the facilities at the airport,” said Everett. “It is great to see dollars from the transportation funding law we enacted earlier this year flowing to necessary projects like this, and I am proud to have been part of what has been a team effort.”

“The recent announcement by the Commonwealth Financing Authority and Pennsylvania Department of Economic and Community Development is welcome news for Lycoming County. A new airport terminal is a vital piece of regional transportation infrastructure that will allow our airport to meet the growing air-service demands from our business community and leisure travel,” said Lycoming County Commissioner Jeff Wheeland.

“The Lycoming County Commissioners look forward to working closely with the Williamsport Regional Airport Authority to ensure this project gets completed within the next two years. We appreciate the efforts of Sen. Gene Yaw and Rep. Garth Everett in pursuing a comprehensive funding package to undertake this $15 million investment,” Wheeland added.

According to a recent PennDOT report, the Williamsport Regional Airport contributes more than $65 million to the local economy supporting over 700 local jobs. The project will enhance the region’s economic viability and provide the opportunity for expanded commercial service.

The CFA was established as an independent agency of the Commonwealth and holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
