Domestic Well Groundwater Survey Planned, Says Everett
7/8/2014
MUNCY – Several organizations, including Lycoming County and the United States Geological Survey (USGS), will be conducting a groundwater quality survey to determine the quality of the water being drawn from privately owned wells, Rep. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming) said today.

“This survey will consist of a comprehensive well water sampling of at least 72 wells in the county, randomly selected among those property owners who volunteer to have this done,” said Everett. “There is no charge involved to participate in the study.”

Everett said the study seeks to characterize the quality of groundwater from freshwater aquifers used by private domestic supply wells. The survey can determine the amounts of substances such as minerals and bacteria that might be present, and often is, naturally occurring.

There are criteria that has to be followed in order to have the well qualify for the survey, including having an available driller record, having been drilled after 1970, having a raw water sampling point, and being used on a daily basis for home or farm use, among other requirements.

If a resident property is selected, a date and time will be arranged for a no-cost plumbing review to see that the system meets the criteria set for the survey.
