Everett, Officials Meet With Veterans on Issues in Williamsport
6/13/2014
WILLIAMSPORT – Rep. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming) today said he, along with Gov. Tom Corbett and Congressman Tom Marino (R-10), met with leaders of veterans’ organizations and local veterans on issues on a state and national scale at the American Legion Post 1 in Williamsport.

“This was a great opportunity to share ideas and hear from veterans about their concerns on Veterans Administration (VA) hospitals and other issues,” said Everett. “One of the major areas of concern is the ongoing VA scandal in Washington, D.C. It was good to hear from Congressman Marino on that subject and to have a discussion on Pennsylvania matters as well. It was a productive effort.”

Corbett and Brigadier Gen. (Ret.) Jerry G. Beck, Jr., Pennsylvania deputy adjutant general for Veterans Affairs, led an overview of Commonwealth issues pertaining to veterans.

The event also featured Pennsylvania American Legion State Commander William Cleveland and representatives of other organizations.

“We are continuing to work in Harrisburg to improve services and opportunities for those who have, and are wearing, the uniform of our nation,” said Everett.

Following meetings, officials were made available for questions and answers from media representatives.

Everett said a website has been developed to aid veterans and their families in sharing concerns and comments on issues such as medical care and others. The address is VAconcerns.pa.gov.
