Everett Says Commonwealth Financing Authority Accepting Applications for Flood Prevention Funds

Program was established by the Act 13 Marcellus Legacy Fund

HARRISBURG – Rep. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming) said today applications for a flood prevention program established by the Act 13 Marcellus Legacy Fund are now being accepted by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).

“This is a good program that is funded by proceeds from the Marcellus Shale impact fees enacted in 2012 that will help local governments with flood mitigation efforts,” said Everett. “The fee generated more than $204 million, and there is $14.5 million going to the Marcellus Legacy Fund. This is welcome news for areas struggling with project funding.”

Everett said the CFA approved guidelines for the program that will include making funding available for acquisition of land and easements for construction, improvement, expansion, repair or rehabilitation of flood control projects, engineering costs, permitting fees and inspection costs.

Everett noted there are other programs benefitting from shale impact fee funds, including $10.9 million for conservation and recreation programs and $7.2 million for the Growing Greener Fund.

Applications for the program can be filed through the Department of Community and Economic Development’s single application system, and will be accepted through July 31 for consideration at the Nov. 13 CFA meeting.
